Medical Devices & Equipment

Location:

Newport Beach, CA

15 million premature babies are born every year. In the U.S. alone, $43 billion is spent annually caring for them.

With very thin skin and underdeveloped organs, premature infants are highly vulnerable to heat loss. This can lead to hypothermia, a condition directly associated with increased chances of respiratory distress, apnea, sepsis, and even death.

Amnion Life’s medical device helps keep premature babies safe and healthy.

The company’s patented solution, the AmnioBed, recreates the natural in-womb environment to nurture critical ongoing development. This decreases the short- and long-term complications common in premature births.

The AmnioBed partially submerges the infant in specially crafted fluid. This mimics a mother’s amniotic fluid in temperature, electrolyte balance, pH, and minerals. This way, the infant can stay warm upon birth in a fluid environment just like they would in the womb.

Since launching in 2016, Amnion Life has been awarded two patents for its device, and has completed R&D efforts with its prototype. In March 2019, the company finished 2nd out of 100 competing companies at the Stanford-UCSF Pediatric Device Consortium.
