Samsara produces a "smart" suitcase made of aviation-grade aluminum.

It provides durability, luxury and modern convenience — at a competitive price.

Hauling around a heavy, bulky suitcase is a hassle. And many travelers get anxious about having their bag stolen, or having it end up on the wrong flight.

Samsara believes its “smart" suitcase (smart because of its high-tech features) will address these concerns.

Made from aviation-grade aluminum alloy, Samsara’s super-lightweight suitcase features what the company calls “ultra protection." Its construction is tough — in fact, it's literally built to withstand a fire.

The suitcase also features a unique wheel design that allows travelers to enjoy far more packing space.

And because its case features a flat, wide top, you can use it as a makeshift desk while you're at the airport or train station.

According to Newsweek, this is “a smart suitcase that fictional British super-spy James Bond — known for his love of quirky gadget and high-tech hardware — would surely snap up.”

The suitcase has built-in LED lights inside, which automatically light up in dark conditions.

It also features an internal battery with USB-C compatibility, enabling you to charge your laptop or smartphone.

Finally, the suitcase is connected through the Samsara app on your smartphone. This app notifies you if your bag has moved away from you, or if it was opened or tampered with.

Because of these features, Wired Magazine called Samsara’s suitcase "smarter than the rest.”

Samsara has sold nearly 1,000 units so far via campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. These units are expected to ship to customers within the next six months.

The company has received significant press from outlets such as Yahoo!, Travel Leisure and Newsweek. It was on Wired's list of “7 Suitcases to Streamline Your Summer Travel.”

With all these bells and whistles, this suitcase certainly doesn't come cheap. But with the average cost of an aluminum suitcase at $1,300, Samsara's $690 price tag makes it a solid option. (It costs the company about $200 to manufacturer each unit.)

Samsara projects to reach $15 million in revenue in two years, and $40 million in four years.

The company is aiming to tap into the global luggage market, currently estimated at $185 billion —with $32 billion from aluminum premium luggage alone.
