Physimax creates personalized "musculoskeletal" assessments and recovery programs.

Using AI, machine learning, and motion capture technologies, this company’s platform monitors a person’s musculoskeletal condition. This helps minimize pain and injury rates, improves recovery, and optimizes performance.

The company has already attracted many notable customers, including:

• Military clients including West Point, the U.S. Marines, and the Israel Defense Forces.

• Pro sports teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), Colorado Rockies (MLB), Indiana Pacers (NBA), and the U.S. Tennis Association.

• Healthcare clients including Emory Healthcare and Genesis Physical Medicine.

• And Division 1 schools including North Carolina, Connecticut, Princeton, and University of Maryland.

(Please note: This particular startup is raising funds from “accredited” investors only. An accredited investor is someone with a net worth of at least $1 million, or annual income of at least $200,000, or $300,000 with their spouse.)

Physimax CEO Ram Shalev was previously Director of Ambulatory Services and Head of Technology at one of Israel’s largest medical rehabilitation centers. And COO David Kahani has more than 20 years of R&D experience with a focus on electronics and computer science.

In the U.S., half of Americans suffer from musculoskeletal issues. These include joint pain, knee injuries, sprains, and strains. Included in this group are soldiers and pro athletes.

Existing assessment and treatment tools are expensive and ineffective. And physical therapy like stretching and jogging aren’t always the right treatment.

Physimax, in contrast, enables trainers to create customized assessments for those suffering from musculoskeletal injuries, and assign them personalized recovery programs.

What separates Physimax from other platforms is its unique intellectual property. This includes:

• Computer vision and machine learning applications.

• 2D and 3D kinematic cameras.

• And a patent-pending overall assessment of an individual’s musculoskeletal profile.

The platform uses motion-capture technology to provide real-time measurements of a patient’s musculoskeletal condition and a personalized training and treatment program.

During the assessment, the platform automatically measures and scores mobility, stability, strength, and movement control using computer vision analysis.

These technologies and innovations enable Physimax to offer what it calls the “4Ps” of digitalized musculoskeletal solution:

Personalized: A self-aided assessment with an objective capture and immediate health “score” of the patient.

Predictive: AI-powered musculoskeletal health insights delivered immediately to the patient. These insights identify “flags” and injury risk factors.

Preventative: Actionable workout programs that provide exercise at multiple levels and phases to improve performance.

Participatory: Patients can provide real-time feedback on their rehabilitation programs, helping trainers tailor the programs on a continuous basis.

Mike Allen, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine, said, “Physimax upgrades our standard of care, saving us precious time with assessments taking minutes and with real-time feedback. The easy-to-interpret report assists our clinicians in decision making.”

Physimax offers its platform as a software-as-a-service, and charges clients annual licenses through a tiered system. The tiers are based on the number of tests a client will conduct using the platform.

The company recently received a $480,000 grant from the Israel Innovation Authority.
