SideStream is a social video platform. It enables individuals and social media “influencers” to host live, interactive digital screening parties for popular movies.

Streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max have become enormously popular, particularly as people have sheltered in place during Covid-19.

To maintain a sense of community, many people have attended virtual “watch parties.” These enable groups to have a synchronized viewing experience of a movie or TV show — complete with conversation and commentary — from the comfort and safety of their respective homes.

With SideStream, they now have an easy way to attend these parties. In addition, some industry experts believe watch parties led by a host, who can lead the conversation and provide special commentary, will be particularly engaging.

This is where SideStream sees an opportunity for “influencers” — popular social media personalities who can host events with their followers and even monetize their brands.

SideStream launched a “beta” version of its platform in January 2021. The company is led by Neal Tiles, an entertainment industry veteran.

Tiles has leveraged his background to secure licensing partnerships with Universal Studios, Lionsgate, and CBS. This will enable SideStream to offer popular movies like “Scarface,” “Happy Gilmore,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”
