SunPress Vinyl is a new full-service record manufacturer.

From cutting to plating to pressing, SunPress takes any album and transfers its sound onto a vinyl record. It even uses some of the same machines that pressed Bob Marley’s original records for Studio One back in the 1970s.

According to Wired, SunPress Vinyl is one of just 18 record pressing facilities in the U.S. and one of 30 in the world.

And despite that small number of pressing facilities, the vinyl record industry is on the rise.

In 2016, vinyl album shipments in the U.S. totaled $430 million and comprised 26% of retail value for physical music product shipments. According to Deloitte, in 2017, the vinyl record industry will generate nearly $1 billion globally.

In January 2017, meanwhile, SunPress Vinyl began selling records commercially and, in June 2017, surpassed $100,000 in cumulative sales.

With those sales, SunPress has already gained notable customers like Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong International, indie music label Merge Records and A to Z, one of the largest vinyl record brokers. The company has also been featured in outlets such as the Miami Herald and Billboard.

By the end of 2017, SunPress plans to purchase new machinery to bring its entire manufacturing process under one roof, as it currently outsources the cutting and plating steps of the process. It also plans to have all six of its machine presses up and running. That would translate to 1.5 million records manufactured each year.
