Find and Hire House Cleaners
Wand is a mobile app enabling consumers to find house cleaners.
Using Wand’s platform, consumers can search for cleaners in their area, view a cleaner's background and prices, and leave reviews.
Cleaners can set their own rates, and create a customized profile that includes a personal bio, experience, and list of skills.
Wand has created an early version of its platform, known as a "minimum viable product," and is seeking capital from individual investors to successfully launch a full-featured app in March 2019.
According to ServiceMaster Global Holdings, parent company of the Merry Maids cleaning franchise, U.S. consumers spent $16 billion on home cleaning in 2017.
In addition, Jobber Academy, a website offering resources for home businesses, recently published an article entitled “5 Cleaning Industry Trends, Predictions, and Statistics for 2018.”
The details of the article were based on one overarching theme: in 2018, cleaning is no longer an out-of-reach service for many homeowners. It’s now a need, more often than a want.
This theme suggests Wand is entering this industry at the right time.
The company’s platform was created to address some of the biggest issues freelance house cleaners face — for example:
Those working for a major cleaning company must adhere to the company’s specific pricing structure. And cleaners who book clients through websites like Craigslist don’t always end up receiving payment for their services.
With Wand, cleaners set their own rates, and payment is guaranteed by the company.
Long-term, Wand could become an attractive acquisition target for a larger company focused on the home cleaning industry.
Earlier this year, for example, Amazon began testing a new housecleaning service called Amazon Home Assistants, offering home cleanings varying in price by the size of the home and frequency of visits. If Amazon continues to grow this service, it may look to acquire startups targeting the home cleaning industry such as Wand.
