Careers - Editor-in-Chief

About Us

Crowdability is the world’s first and largest publisher focused on startup investing.

Thanks to a new set of laws called the JOBS Act, for the first time in 85 years, ordinary individuals can now invest in private startups. This is an exciting development — but if investors don’t know what they’re doing, they could lose their shirts.

Crowdability’s mission is to help inform, protect, and guide these investors. We do that by providing independent investment research, and by making complex topics understandable.

Backed by top VCs, Crowdability has quickly become a leader in this emerging sector.

About the Role

Crowdability is seeking a skilled, creative Editor-in-Chief.

Reporting to the company’s founder, the EIC will be based in New York City, in Tribeca.

The EIC will manage the editorial team, and craft and precisely edit a wide variety of content — from sharp headlines, to 500-word articles about technology trends and intriguing startups, to 5,000-word reports on emerging sectors and specific investment opportunities.

The successful candidate must have exceptional instincts and judgment about what makes a startup a compelling investment, and what makes a story a compelling read. A deep interest in all areas that relate to emerging technologies and business formation — including startups, venture capital, the financial markets, and M&A — is desired.

The EIC will be versatile, and possess the ability to edit all types of content with speed and depth under deadline pressure.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Write and edit daily stories.
  • Edit data-driven research reports that analyze the merits of various startups.
  • Research, write, and edit 5,000-word reports spanning topics relevant to technology, startups, and the financial markets.
  • Edit promotional and sales content.
  • Edit and approve final versions of all content prior to publication.
  • Manage a team of writers and researchers, and hire and train new staff.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least five years of writing, editing, and researching experience.
  • Experience from journalism or finance. While familiarity with financial services and markets is preferred, it is not required.
  • Must be passionate (and ideally, knowledgeable) about tech, startups, VC, and M&A.
  • Proficient in numeracy and able to draw on a variety of general business knowledge.
  • Able to analyze the data behind a story or investment.
  • Able to quickly and sharply edit for grammar, style, sense, jargon, and accuracy.
  • Must be self-motivated, independent, and results-oriented.
