Jane West provides one-stop shopping for cannabis consumers.

This company doesn’t produce or manufacture cannabis, enabling it to avoid the risks associated with cultivating, or “touching” the plant.

Rather, through its website and retail stores in 10 states, Jane West sells cannabis-related products and accessories. Example products include CBD capsules for improved sleep, CBD oils and lotions, and CBD-infused coffee.

In 2018, Jane West raised more than $185,000 through an equity crowdfunding round. Now the company needs additional capital to expand its brand and strive for profitability in 2020.

By 2025, the U.S. legal cannabis market is expected to reach $30 billion. Cannabis is already legal in 11 states for adults over 21, and legal for medicinal use in 33 states.

But for people interested in cannabis, the process can be intimidating. Many have questions such as “What products do I need?” or “Which brands are the best?”

Jane West provides answers to these questions. This company has two competitive advantages. The first is its Founder, Jane West:

According to Inc.com, “She’s the most widely recognized female personality in cannabis.”

And a 2019 article from InStyle noted, “After getting fired for vaping on TV, this woman built her own cannabis empire.”

In 2014, Jane lost her job as an event planner when her employer spotted her on a news broadcast smoking vaporized marijuana — a broadcast about legalized cannabis.

After the incident, she started Women Grow, an organization dedicated to helping women succeed in the cannabis industry. By February 2016, Women Grow had chapters in 44 cities and more than 30,000 members.

Following the success of this organization, she decided to launch Jane West. While her products are helpful for any cannabis enthusiast, Jane West focuses specifically on women. According to company research, women are among the fastest-growing consumer groups in cannabis, increasing 32% per year in newly-legalized markets.

The second attribute that makes the Jane West brand different is its branding. This company uses packaging that’s clean and simple. This enables consumers, particularly first-time cannabis users, to quickly and easily understand a product’s purpose, ingredients, and intended effects.

This packaging is found on all of Jane West’s products. Current product lines include:

• Signature Travel Collection: Designed and launched in 2016, this includes cases and accessories for taking cannabis “on the go.” In Canada, the company’s exclusive distributor has these items for sale in more than 70 stores.

• Mini Joints: These are cases of miniaturized cannabis “joints.” Since 2017, the company has launched partnerships with licensed cannabis producers in 10 states, and aims to double its footprint in 2020.

• Glassware: Jane West develops a line of glassware products, including bongs, bowls, and pipes for using cannabis.

Jane West also partners with CBD manufacturers to sell hemp-derived products through its website, betterwithjane.com. Products include CBD lotions, sleeping aids, and coffee.

Jane West reported revenues of around $200,000 in 2019, up from $53,000 in 2018. With funds raised from this round, the company will launch branded topicals and tinctures, and continue expanding its distribution network.
